Is Quartz Stone Suitable for Outside Use?

Manufactured quartz – the type used for our furniture and kitchen worktops – is unfortunately not suitable for outside use. Over long periods of time, UV light can alter the colour of quartz, changing the appearance of your luxury piece.

For that reason, we would recommend that you keep and quartz furniture pieces as interior furniture, and choose either natural or sintered stone for outdoor areas.

Natural Stone Outdoor Furniture

Granite and Marble are admired around the world for their stunning visual properties. Thousands of different types are available, and each slab is different from the last. If you want a totally unique piece, then this is the stone to go for.

Being natural products, Granite and Marble are ideal for outdoor settings and they will maintain their vibrant finish for years to come. Whether you are making a full outdoor kitchen and dining area, or just want a cosy drinks table, you cannot go wrong with these options.

Sintered Stone Outdoor Furniture

Sintered Stone, like Quartz, is a manufactured stone product. However, unlike Quartz, it is completely suitable for outside use. In fact, Sintered Stone can even be used for flooring and exterior building cladding!

There is a huge range of colour and design options with Sintered Stone, from natural stone options, to wood effects (Neolith La Bohème) or rusted sheet metal (Neolith Iron Range), along with pure solid colours.

Sintered Stone is also a lighter product than natural stone, allowing easier manoeuvrability, should you wish to move the furniture around more often.

Verona Bespoke Quartz Dining Table

Case Study - Kitchen and Dining Room Symmetry

Case Study - Kitchen and Dining Room Symmetry

After recently fitting a new kitchen, with Ammonite Ice quartz worktops from Steve Bristow Stone Masonry, our client wanted to extend the design throughout with matching furniture.

The brief was to produce a coordinating range of tables for an open plan living/dining/kitchen area with the table tops matching the quartz kitchen worktop but to introduce a contrasting colour for the bases. The pure white of the Ammonite Ice wouldn't work with the floor tiles as they had a marble effect on a white backdrop. Putting two different whites right next to each other can be a tricky task as one will tend to have an off-white look compared to the other, so they needed some space between them.

The Verona was decided on as the base design for the dining, coffee and side tables, the gentle curves of the design are a strong statement without being intrusive. The client gave us the overall dimensions, allowing us to draw up several CAD design options for approval. In the meantime, the colour needed choosing.

CAD Quartz Dining Table Design

With over 200 different quartz designs available, finding the perfect match wouldn't be a problem for our client. Our factory has a 2 storey showroom which the client visited twice to narrow down and confirm their choice of table top design, edge detail and colour - a Nero Marquina, which is a black marble design with a white vein. The other main colour in the space was red, so black and white created a strong aesthetic.

Base Design for Verona Dining Table

With the colours decided and the designs confirmed, it was time to manufacture. We were on a tight schedule to get the tables completed and installed in time for Christmas which we kept to and the finished product in the space looks incredible.

Just like this series of Verona tables, our fully bespoke service allows you to craft your perfect piece of stone furniture. We work with you to make your dreams a reality. Contact us to find out more.

Inspiration – Seamless flow of colour from your worktop throughout the house

Inspiration – Seamless flow of colour from your worktop throughout the house

The most common place for granite, quartz or sintered stone in a house is the kitchen worktop. But why should it stop there? With our range of original and bespoke furniture options, there are so many ways to extend your worktops into the dining room and beyond.

Quartz Furniture

Our core portfolio of furniture pieces are all manufactured from this elegant, yet durable material. The unique properties of quartz allow us to curve the stone in beautiful shapes such as the ones seen in the Maranello and Sorrento.

Granite Furniture

Being a natural product, granite is unique and can vary from slab to slab. By installing a worktop and commissioning furniture at the same time, the option is available to create everything from the same slabs as seen here in this Forest Black worktop and accompanying furniture pieces. This material cannot be curved but gives the opportunity to create some stunning pieces.

Sintered Stone FurnitureLarge outdoor table made from Neolith Estatuario

Sintered stone is a manufactured material, much like quartz, however it cannot be curved. However, there is still the same opportunity to create some stunning pieces to compliment the ultra-modern worktops that this material provides. Sintered stone is very strong an opens up opportunities for more manoeuvrable furniture options, such as this 18-seater outdoor table, made from 20mm thick Neolith.

Steve Bristow Stone Masonry Recognised in Parliamentary Review

Steve Bristow Stone Masonry Recognised in Parliamentary Review

Last year, our parent company Steve Bristow Stone Masonry was greatly honoured to have been featured in the Parliamentary Review, and Steve was invited up to London celebrate at the annual gala.

The Parliamentary Review, chaired by Sir Eric Pickles and Lord Blunkett, is a collection of publications released each year, which aims to share best practice among policy makers and business leaders.

Each publication focuses on a specific area of our economy and features insights from chosen business leaders, cabinet ministers and government bodies. The aim is to give us a review of the year that has been and a model for pressing forward with the following year.

Since starting the business in 1996, Steve has worked tirelessly to build Steve Bristow Stone Masonry into a thriving and successful business which has always aimed to deliver a quality product and class-leading customer service. We were all thrilled to hear that this tireless dedication has been recognised on a parliamentary level.

Here is what Steve had to say about his newest venture – Steve Bristow Furniture:

“The additional factory capacity has recently enabled us to develop new products. A line of custom furniture, the amalgamation of hard materials with glass and innovative bending techniques to shape quartz are exciting new developments that are taking the business in a new direction. Never content to stand still, we are always looking for brand-new opportunities.

When the company was officially incorporated, I put my name above the door, and ensured that my standards and expectations were embedded in the company ethos: supplying the very finest products and offering a faultless customer service. I set out with a personal ambition to chase perfection, and be the best that I possibly could be. This rings through even now, 22 years on.”

Looking back at the past year

In the year since receiving the prestigious accolade, Steve Bristow Furniture has gone developed and grown into a flourishing bespoke furniture business. In January, we exhibited in the January Furniture Show at the NEC where our range received very positive reviews.

We recently launched our brand new website which allows you to personally customise pieces in our current furniture range. The customer is a fantastic tool which lets you see your personalised product in life-like computer generated images.

Our list of stockists has begun to grow too. We are still looking for top quality stockists and welcome any applications. Our stockist list will also been soon available on our website.

We have taken on some very interesting bespoke projects, including this Neolith Table and a new collection of furniture is soon to be released.

Large outdoor Neolith Table

Bespoke Neolith Table Project

Bespoke Neolith Table Project

Where can you get a marble table big enough to seat 18?

That was the problem that one of our recent clients had, and we were tasked with creating the solution. Our client was based in London and had spotted some inspiration out of an office window for an outdoor marble table. It had to withstand the four seasons of British weather and also be possible to move.

Based on these factors, we suggested looking at Neolith instead of marble. This sintered stone was still able to give the striking patterns found in the natural stone, but is much stronger and durable than marble, allowing us to work with 20mm material which will hold up to being moved from time to time.

Neolith Estatuario

The Estatuario model in the Classtone Collection stands out due to its faithful interpretation of Carrara marble. A combination of thick and subtle veins crossing a pure white background provides the Estatuario with a design that exudes elegance and decorates any space where it's used with a touch of freshness, class and beauty.

The Carrara Estatuario is a material that is in high demand nowadays due to the global trend to use white veined marble in homes. Estatuario by Neolith meets this market demand by offering the inherent design of this natural stone along with the innate resistance of Sintered Compact Surfaces.

Neolith Estatuario was chosen and we set to work on the design of the table. Because of the size, the top needed to be manufactured in two pieces due to the slab size and also to be able to take apart and move. This presented us with an opportunity to make the most of the book-matching option from Neolith and create a real statement with the vein pattern. The three cubed legs also had the veining wrap around to keep the flow and natural look of the table.

Once manufactured, we had the table packaged up and delivered to the property in London where we assembled it and added the small finishing touch of some placemats made from Neolith Basalt Grey to contrast against the white of the Estatuario.
